Cambodia and Russia Military MOU Draft Nearly Completed

Cambodia and Russia have agreed on the majority of the draft Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on army cooperation, anticipating expanding stronger relations between the two armies.

In a bilateral meeting on December 14, 2022, between the Deputy Chief of the General Staff of the Russian Army, Lt. Gen. Vladimir Sviridov and Deputy Commander-in-Chief of the Royal Cambodian Armed Forces and Commander of the Army, Lt. Gen. Hun Manet stated that the establishment of this cooperation was a new step in mutual efforts to strengthen and deepen cooperation while establishing a solid foundation.

Lt. Gen. Vladimir Sviridov also expressed optimism about the importance of continuing to strengthen the potential relations between the two countries armies, especially in human resource training.

It should be noted that the official visit of the Russian Armed Forces delegation is part of the implementation of bilateral military cooperation for positive progress. Particularly, the directions discussed and agreed upon during Lt. Gen. Hun Manet's official visit to the Russian Federation in 2019 and the official visit of Russia’s Secretary of the Security Council, Nikolai Patrushev, to Cambodia in 2021.
